Dear /sci/

Why do we need exams??

>> No.3179271

to test knowledge/skills (quantitatively, qualitatively or both, depending on the type of exam)

/thread

>> No.3179277

to see if you know shit

Because examination of human psychology has demonstrated the people are prone to saying "I know" without any level of specificity.

>> No.3179302

because employers need some objective measure of your ability. other than facilitating the efficient function of society in this way, exams mean fuck all. that reason however is pretty damn powerful especially in a capitalist system. I'd love there to be system without tests were we just learned anything we wanted, when we wanted and contributed whatever we could. But society would collapse.

>> No.3179313

Because our neuroscience isn't advanced enough to allow us to scan brains and see what people have actually learned

>> No.3179318

for grading

>> No.3179346

Because no one would actually learn anything without them.

It's not such much of seeing that you know the material but you have to study for these tests in some way and actually make sure that you understand the material.

I didn't understand most of my Analysis class until I studied like a motherfucker for the final.
