Hey /sci/, here is a chemistry/drug question.
Ok so we all know that THC is what gives you the high off of marijuana. And that THC is soluble in oils, fats and alcohol.
What I want to know is, how long does it take for alcohol to bind with the THC? This is also called "Green Dragon." This is in a situation where you take the marijuana, grind it up and just drop it in a bottle of alcohol. Specifically Brandy (40% alcohol), 750ml and about 6 grams was put in with some stems. Anyone know exactly?
I would guess within a few hours the process will start, within a week it will get better, and in 1 month as much THC as possible will be binded with the alcohol. Its been one week btw

>> No.3175092

You can extract all the THC within 48 hours. You're talking about hash through alcohol extraction. I've done this many times using 100 proof vodka and various amounts of dope (eights, quarters). Throw the bud in the alchy, let it sit for a couple days, filter the solids out, evaporate the liquid, and viola, hash.

Rly? Oh...well I thought it was just drop it in and alcohol binds with THC and you drink it to get high and drunk. Can I still drink it after or do I have to filter it and get hash?

>> No.3175112

I make mine over several months adding bud at certain times and straining it at certain times.

I would not recommend it, Maijuana has some very negative effects. It seems to disrupt peoples emotions and personalties.

Goddamn amateurs.

Get a pot with a lid.
All lids have that little hole in them, put a straw over that.
Pack some ice around the straw to re-condense the lost alcohol vapors.
Boil everclear (95% ethanol) with your desired amount of cannabis. Keep in mind that this will boil at ~64 degrees C.
Keep doing this for a few hours (2 should do it) and allow to cool when finished.
Strain your liquid through some coffee filters to remove particulates.

Enjoy your green dragon. It tastes terrible but boy is it powerful stuff.

>>3175105
You don't have to filter it. The THC is in the alcohol. If you enjoy drinking granulated plant matter, go for it. If you let it sit (don't use heat to evaporate it as it will kill the THC and not to mention alcohol is flammable), the remainder is straight THC, compress it into hash. The residual plant matter? Dry it out and sell it to a dumbass for profit.

I strain it to get the plant matter out...

No, he's not talking about making hash. He's talking about making Green Dragon.

Yeah, sorry I am an amateur with this. Never made it before. Do I really have to do that? I alread grinded up all my kush, put it in the Brandy and have been shaking it once per day for the past week. Will it work the same as what you said to do? To me it seems like it would

>>3175117
64 degrees Celsius is enough to break down THC. Don't do this. Never heat THC if you can avoid it, unless you're inhaling it.

>>3175117
Forgot to mention. Pay close attention to everything and keep a fire extinguisher handy.

We used some actual glassware and hotplate stirrers to do it, but you likely don't have that kind of equipment.

>> No.3175169

easiest way if you're patient is to microwave some weed (teenth or an eighth) for about a minute until it is crisp and then plop it into a jar of lemon extract.
seal and leave in a cupboard for about a week or two.
strain out the plant bits and pour the now green lemon extract into a bottle of brandy.

>>3175169
forgot to add, this is also a lot safer than heating strong spirits over a stove.

>> No.3175189

>>3175169
Well shit. Next time I will do every method that was put on here.

But can someone PLEASE just answer. What I did (put my kush in the Brandy), can I still drink it and get the same effect?

>> No.3175191

>>3175169
...

Just no.

OP, don't heat THC. Let your powdered bud sit in your alcohol for at least 48 hours, filter it, and enjoy. Any longer is analogous to people "X-ing out their bong rips" (holding hits until they exhale clear). DO NOT HEAT IT. Alcohol is flammable and THC breaks down easily with heat.

>>3175189
Yes, you're fine, OP. A week is more than sufficient. Drink that shit. Enjoy, report back.

Sorry chief, it doesn't. It vaporizes at 200C but it still doesn't polymerize until the temps get even higher.
>>3175189
Oh yeah. Just leave it there for a while. I'd say two weeks just to be certain.

Be sure to strain it to remove nasty plant particulates (not dangerous but unpleasant to drink) and try drinking it with a snifter.

just yes.
heat it in a microwave but don't over do it.
it's called decarboxlyation.

trust me i've done this a fuck load of times at uni.
heat it for bout 30secs on medium. wait a while, then repeat.
THCA -> THC

>OP, don't heat THC
What the hell do you think you're doing when you smoke the stuff?

>> No.3175240

Ok, OBVIOUSLY I'm not retarded...well to a limit, haha. I know my stuff about THC. Why would I heat it? Heating up kush will realease THC in the air, therefore WASTING it. Microwaving it...I dont see why I would do that but quite a few said to so I shall try doing that in the future. And heating up alcohol? Ok, I can see that working but the risk of fucking up is just a no for me

>> No.3175246

>>3175239
He has a point. When you smoke you heat it up and right away take in the vapour. Heating it up just like that is useless

>Microwaving it...I dont see why I would do that
It converts the inactive THCA present in cannabis to the active form THC. You don't vaporise it, just gently heat it.

Yes I now understand it better and I guess everything I did was proper. I am going to drink that shit tonight, see how it is and if I get the chance, I'll report back.

Thank you for the help /sci/

>> No.3175272

>>3175240
Yeah, I recommended the heating.

I should mention that when we tried it my sophomore year, we had proper glassware and hotplate stirrers. We used a big flat bottomed flask full of everclear and a leibig condenser on top of that with ice water running through it to condense our alcohol back down. Just to be certain, we had a cold finger dangling into the opening of the condenser but not blocking it.

I should have added the caveat that it is likely VERY unsafe under normal "do it yourself" circumstances and yeah, recommending a straw as a ghetto leibig condenser was bad safety, and hence bad science, on my part.

>> No.3175285

>>3175204
Sorry chief, it does. At 50°C (122°F) THC-Acid decarboxylates as the water molecule held in the carbonate form evaporates. This activates the THC.

>>3175239
Smoking it, you dumbshit, not extracting it. OP does not want to smoke it, he wants to dissolve it into alcohol. Don't heat it unless you're inhaling it.

>> No.3175291

>>3175248
You know what does that better than microwaving it? Curing it.

>> No.3175306

>>3175291
True, that requires yet more patience though.

>>3175285
>Don't heat it unless you're inhaling it.
Why do you keep saying this?
http://cannabisculture.com/articles/3037.html

>There are several ways to decarboxylate marijuana for use in extracts. A layer of marijuana buds or leaf can be placed in an oven at 150 degrees for 15 minutes. This is far below the boiling point of THC yet warm enough to evaporate the carboxyl group. Another method of releasing the COOH is by placing a bowl of buds in the microwave for 2 minutes. The waves will boil away the water. The boiling point of marijuana's active cannabinoids ranges from 260-392 degrees F.
OP I personally recommend heating it. It works, and that's coming from experience. But in the name of science I guess you can only try different methods yourself and report back.
