How can you say my cat isn't conscious? :(

because you beat it to death.

>> No.3167577

Just because it doesn't recognise itself in a mirror does not mean it is not aware of itself.

>> No.3167580

All animals needs to be treated as conscious beings until we can prove otherwise (which right now is impossible and probably can't ever be done). This is why vegetarianism is morally defensible.

>> No.3167581

I will need to use a special probe to test it. It might hurt a little but the cat will enjoy it.

>> No.3167582 [DELETED]

I never said that.

>> No.3167584

Who says consciousness is an on/off switch?

Cat's are more conscious than alligators, which are more conscious than flies.

It's just a term that mostly describes a set of information processing and decision making systems, such as in the brain.

>> No.3167615

It either is conscious or unconscious.

However, we won't know which until we open the box.

I would say cats are certainly conscious and semi-aware of their surroundings. Cats just lack the processing capability we have to connect more than just 2 dots at a time.

>> No.3169670

cats are conscious, just not very intelligent. just like you, OP.

I don't see much difference between the consciousness of a cat and the average human... except that cat's generally conduct themselves in a more dignified way.

Cats, apparently unlike many humans, can be trained to accurately piss and shit INSIDE the toilet.

I've never seen a cat talk, write or express itself in anyway.
they can't recognize patterns
They aren't as intelligent as any human.

you da man son. everyone else is a retard in this thread.

>I've never seen a cat talk, write or express itself in anyway.

Cats can't write, but many humans can't either. Cats can't speak, but some humans also can't do that.
Cats can absolutely express themselves in other ways; hissing at someone when angry or threatened, for instance, is it expressing itself.
And while cats are not easily trainable, they can be trained, and training requires a degree of pattern recognition.

I'm not saying cats are conscious; I really don't know. But your reasons are completely absurd, and if they were the basis for judging consciousness cats would have to be judged to be conscious.

i still remember what it was liek to be 3 years old.
Its almost the same way with cats.

Have you ever been super super wasted?

The cat is conscious. There is no reason to believe that less intelligent animals are any less conscious or self-aware than ourselves. Self-awareness is a trait highly evolutionarily conserved--it definitely confers some survival advantage.

ever not sleep for a day or two... and your so tired you barely know what your doing but your still entirely functional. Then you finally go to sleep, and wakeup and dont remember anything.

ever drive your care miles and miles without realizing it, feeling like you just teleported home? THAT is the state of being unconscious. Your fully functional, doing complicated tasks... and yet your "self" had nothing to do with it, just conditioned responses.... thats what its like for most animals... only humans and a select few animals are blessed with self awareness.

the only reason I don't eat people is illegal
the only reason I eat meat is because it tastes good
there might still be morality
but you would eat human steak

"scientific" reasoning:
humans match our food profile exactly, and are the most healthy to eat out of all the animals on earth, assuming they keep themselves healthy

so fuck you
eat meat
in 1000 years eat people
eat me
