It's pretty strong stuff .. in terms of capability, yes I do believe strings have and will bring us certain insight into physics (AdS/CFT fuck yeah).

It's not something you believe in. It may be a model to direct future research. So you can know what it is you're doing tomorrow. Or it may not.

String theory is interesting but as of yet, is untestable has very few implications for anything. I honestly think the only reason it's more popular than loop quantum gravity is because it allows the proposition of a Creator in higher dimensions.

LQG is a more solid direction as it attempts to unify relativity and quantum mechanics without invoking higher dimensions.
