I dont know what you mean by healthier practice, but for the hell of it I will explain the truth.
When the body is getting too hot, the blood capillaries near the skin surface expand (or dilute, not sure which term is more accurate) so more blood is near the surface and the heat in the blood is lost through radiation. You become red when you are hot.
when you lose heat, these capillaries become smaller, so as little heat as possible is lost through the skin so moe heat stays within the internal organ area. This is why people become paler when cold.
