Student here. Thinking about dropping my Trig class this summer. One week in and we've already covered five sections and the first test is today, we only meet two times a week.

I've got some stuff down but I work and have another class. I already know I'm going to bomb the test if I can't have my notes out.

Should I drop before it's too late? Today is the last day for refund.

No, you should learn some basic mathematics or get the fuck back over to /b/

>> No.3107585

Also I'll just be taking it next semester instead. I intended to take Calc 1 in the fall but.. the professor admitted we are learning only the basics we need for Calculus because of the accelerated semester, and we miss a week of class from holidays. I'd rather come to Calculus with skills than just compacting my brain and probably losing all of that soon as it ends.

Yeah I want to. But a lot of things are consuming my time right now too.

>Too retarded for trig
>Expects to understand calculus

Have fun with that, douchebag

>> No.3107611

wat? which one is it
a) you have to pay for class on a per-course basis in high school (wtf)
b) there are trig classes at your university (WTF)

Actually got an A in pre-calculus, stats, and my business classes. It's just this class in particular that is busting my brain.

I work 35 hours a week and taking micro economics this semester alongside trigonometry. Having to cover five sections in one week was brain busting at best. I can see the pattern in solving trigonometric problems, just simply memorize the formulas and then just apply them. Simple.

However with the teacher not teaching us, just rushing through the chapters and leaving everyone except three people in the class behind, it's only hurting my grasp of it. I've asked him to slow down after the first day, he only sped up.

Yeah I go to community college. Har har. Anyways this comments are taking the "I know this, so you should know this" approach, so I'm just going to end up dropping the class.

Ah so you're working as in you're not a student or teenager. Then it's okay I guess.

If your workload is too much, then drop the class before it hurts you. A lot of people don't understand how hard it is to work for a living and try to go to school at the same time since they jumped straight into universities.

Its fucking trig what are you handicapped?

get a stupid mnemonic device to remember the sin/cos/tan relations ships, and remember there are 180 degrees in a triangle. holy shit.

I'm still a student. 21 now in fact. First year I've done very well, second year I took off due to financial problems, and third year I've come back to school and worked pretty hard to get where I am.

If I didn't have work this wouldn't be a problem. I want to do this class really bad, I love the material, but I'm having to juggle time just to post here.

>>3107629
Yeah. I already know A LOT of trigonometry will be used in Calculus. They will expect me to know this and won't have time for catch-up. I just need a firm grasp of what I'm doing, but not damage my GPA severely in the process.

>> No.3107651

what exactly can't you grasp?

isn't trig just geometry and angles and shit?

>> No.3107655

>>3107642 I already know A LOT of trigonometry will be used in Calculus
Not really, if you ask me. I mean you'll have to integrate a sin from time to time, but you don't need much of what you could possibly have learned in trig class there.
(Note that I never had a trig class, so I've got no idea what is actually taught there - but I doubt it's useful to know. I get along fine with sin(h)/cos(h)/exp, I just look the rest up.)

From what I've seen, everything does with the measure of the angles of a right triangle. That's it.

Fourth section in, though, I'm looking at the graphs of a cosine function or sinusoidal. Everything is about patterns so far. If you know one section, you can move onto the next. I'm still finding that a hard time.

>>3107655
Oh.. Maybe I should stay and just cut hours or something then. If it gets too bad I can withdrawl without my money back, and still not hurt my GPA.

Cool. I like the Calculus cheat sheet. The others I've pretty much covered. I'll keep these around...

I'll just stick with the class. I'm really weary about this but knowing it's not a win or lose situation for when I go to Calculus.. I'll feel alright.

If you think you're going to get a bad grade, drop it. There's always next summer or winter.
