If I am not a planet then why do I have a moon?

Because your center of gravity with Charon lies above your surface. Also, you have three moons, not just one.

As for why you're not a planet? Ask Neil deGrasse Tyson. He's pretty hellbent on keeping you out of the cool kids club.

Didn't some university in Osaka discover orphaned gas planets?

Basically the galaxy is filled with gas giants that keep on rollin after their star collapses into a white dwarf and after that white dwarf collapse.

Yeah, the discovery was made recently.

They seem to get "ejected" from their respective star systems and wander space until ( I assume) they gain enough mass to collapse into a star.

Considering the fact that the further you go in the solar system, the faster and more violent the wind systems become. Could it be that gas giants eject themselves from their own systems? Via their eccentricity?

Not exactly true, they get ejected at the conception of their parent solar systems.
