Trying to do science.

Need very precise 1/32" copper balls (not hollow spheres) to do said science.

Internets have failed (don't want to buy from alibaba).

Figured /sci/ would be as good a place as any to ask for help doing science.

Can /sci/ help find suppliers?

why?

is too generic.

Correction: We don't have the capability to make copper balls that size with tolerances small enough for our research. +/- .001" is about where we need them to be.

In what direction? If they're +0.001" on the x and y and -0.001" on the z ordinate axis, then that's a squat ellipsoid as opposed to one that's just slightly malformed.
BB's or other 'cheap' options may fall within your tolerances if you measure enough, but I doubt they're made to those tolerances

I'd say if you can measure that accurately, pick a few ball bearings from McMaster, crack them open and measure them.
Making spheres is really difficult, so scavenging them from some existing solution may be best.

Either that, or get a spherical roller and a bunch of rough-machined/pressed/molded/manufactured spheres. Just like polishing a stone, tumble them until you get one within your tolerances. 0.002" isn't much wiggle room, so good luck.

It's from a series of T-shirts. I have one with the guy riding a bacteria with cilia, the "Science!" text is in the Star Trek TNG font and it's in that greenish-blue starfleet science/medical division wears.

Also, there's the pic on the back of the shirt up near my neck without the text.

Blame the manufacturers, not me!

We ordered 1/32" aluminum balls from McMaster, but they don't have copper balls of that size. Manufacturing our own balls is probably out of the question. If it really comes down to it we may be forced to, but I refuse to believe that there are no reputable manufacturers that make 1/32" copper balls.

Using random body parts and guess work?

Doesn't sound like precision

Say if I need copper ball replacements and i Don't live on a farm?

Maybe some sort of gyroscope supplier or something?
