What science-related thing would you like to see happen in your lifetime? Can be realistic or idealistic.

For me, picture related

Warp speed!
...or I'd die happy knowing that there was some other form of interstellar travel available.

Any kind of compact, mobile, powerful source of energy.

Limitless energy would solve almost any problem, including those of spaceflight.

Define compact, because liquid fluoride thorium reactors could be called compact and mobile and are really powerful.

Something that has enough output in a light and small-enough package to lift itself and a significant payload out of Earth's gravity well.

While I'm hopeful about the rise in the popularity of thorium, it's hardly a tried and tested technology yet.

So if it catches on, I wouldn't expect a larger-scale adoption sooner than a decade or two from now.

I'd give it 50/50 chance to happen in my lifetime.

Clarification: I hope to see it able to be used to to heat propellant(water, ammonia, something else) and provide ligt that way. So the anti-nuclear group would get their panties only a little twisted.

Wishful thinking at best.

This. I think it would have a massive impact on humanity as a whole. It doesn't even have to be the sort of 'perfect energy source' people dream about. Moving onto electric cars and the like with the help of thorium reactors would be good enough. Though, it seems nuclear energy won't take the mantle for the main source of energy in the near future with the growing negativity from the general public. Let's hope things change.

Also, efficient recycling for things like rare metals and other technologically relevant resources.

These are more social changes than scientific though.
