I really don't see why everyone debates the question 'Is there life other than us?'
If think it is dumb to think there IS NOT life in the universe. You think we are so special that in a universe billions of light years across that just one planet could produce life? Look at some fish, who can live under immense pressure, no light, hardly any food on the ocean floor. Even by chance, there must be a similar size planet, similar distance from a star with similar composition of elements.

As for water on mars, there probably was, but maybe just enough to harbour bacteria or simple single cell life.

>> No.3067127

>>3067125
There certainly isnt any other intelligent life in the universe ecept for that on earth. maybe there are simple bacteria and stuff millions of light years away, but definitely nothing anywhere near as complex as us.

We would have been contacted by now if there was other intelligent life. they would send out radiowaves, messages and such.
intelligent life is just so rare, you need exactly the right chemical composition, and exactly the right kind of solid planet, not too hot, not too cold, has an atmosphere, has a stable orbit around a star, and even then you need a Lot of luck.

Not necessarily. Radio waves distort after enough time/distance, and they'd either be undetectable or white noise by the time they reached anyone. Furthermore, there's no reason to assume that aliens would be more advanced and looking for contact. For all we know, we could be the most advanced species in the universe right now.

It's also possible that alien races are more advanced and they simply choose not to contact us because it'd be more trouble than we're worth.

We have no information on the subject, and any discussion is pure speculation.

You fucking asshole. Think of man 2000 years ago. We could be banging a drum to try and communicate with other life, oblivious that there are others trying to contact us via radio waves.

Think of how far we have developed in 2000 years. In another 2000 years our view on science may have changed dramatcially and we could find out there was intelligent life trying to contact us all along.

Liquid water, no. Ice, however, exists at the polar regions of the planet. "Water" is quite common in the solar system, actually, in the form of ice. It is LIQUID water that has proven itself to be so evasive.

Mars almost certainly has liquid water, just not on the surface.

pretty sure they know for sure that there is ice on europa, probably Titan as well.

those are not really debated, though they may not be 100% fact.

water is a major component of many of the gas giants, and it is simply at a lower altitude layer of the atmospheres of each one.

I even remember one of the outer gas giants may have a "surface" layer deep inside that is composed of supercritical water.

water is a super duper stable compound and one of the limited number of simple molecules that forms in large quantities from the nucleosynthesis of stars like our sun.

nowhere near as common as methane (carbon is a particularly stable product of light nucleosynthesis, and hydrogen is of course, the most abundant material in the universe), but methane is so light/volatile that it is actually capable of escaping the atmosphere of most planets, and is only found as liquid/crystal on the outer gas giants where it is cold as fuck.

Whats wrong with that statement?

I mean besides being a gross understatement. The sun "is" hot enough to boil water.

>> No.3067711

Those comments just exhibit the limit of layman understanding of the univers. Which probably contributed to >>3067127 saying there's absolutely no other intelligent life in the universe and even primitive life has to be in another galaxy.

I just don't think he understood how bad his comment was and why it was bad.
