Hey /sci/, so I'm about to jump into a 3 week summer course of Trig, followed by an 8 week course Pre-cal. Both courses at the local CC.

Up until my last algebra class, I've always elected to do math with a calculator when I had the chance, but now I've got the growing urge to do the shit like a real man, large numbers on my paper and when possible, in my head.

Any tips? How often do you use calculators? Have any of you forced yourselves to abandon their aid?

what, like adding 2 numbers? just use the calculator bro

That has nothing to do with what math is.

Who gives a shit if you can do large calculations without a calculator?

Studying math at a higher level is NOT pointless arithmetic.

i think you're completely missing the point of the courses op

Wait, I take that back.

Go take stats and do every standard deviation by hand. Do SD by hand for 100+ variables. Do it 20 times a night daily. NO calculator at all.

normcdf() ftw, made stat bearable
No table A for me!
