I need your creativity, /sci/.

A friend of mine is writing a short story with roots in science fiction, but she wants to make it as scientifically plausible as possible.

She asked me to come up with a ship that could travel from earth to Proxima Centauri, and I have attempted to do that, but that's NOT what I'm here for.

Despite working to make the ship, well, "work," I can't think of a name for the thing.

Anyway, ITT: Names for an Interstellar Spacecraft.

Specifically, Names for the FIRST Interstellar Spacecraft.

The Sagan -- I like this one the most.

The Armstrong

The Gagarin

This isn't science however.

Well, religious debate/troll threads aren't science either.

Just thought /sci/ might be interested, since interstellar flight seems to be a hot topic here.

Santa Maria.

The ship Christopher Columbus found America with.

or

Nao Victoria

The ship Magellan used to successfully circumnavigate the world.

I think these would be appropriate for space..

If in your friend's story humans turn out to be the invading aliens and shit, definitely choose the nina the pinta or the santa maria.

Foreshadowing, dog.

ISS (Interstellar Space Ship) Prometheus

He represented the bringer of light and knowledge to mankind in Greek mythology.

Per aspira ad astra.

I propose we name the ship "Perspiration".

>> No.3042857

Depending on the ship's mission and what Earth is like when we send it, any of these names could work.
Yamato
Mushai
Imperious
Invincible
Ajax
Achilles
Alexander
Agamemnon
Kepler
Galileo
Drake
Admiral Peary (polar explorer)
Commodore Perry (shelled tokyo before it was cool)
Leviathan
Friedrich the Great
Tamerlane (built pyramids out of his enemies' skulls)
Sargon of Akkad
Saladin
Nimitz
Halsey
Gherman Titov
Von Braun
Korolev
Cortez
DeSoto
Columbus
Prometheus (I like that one)
Icarus (also good)
Atlas
Independence
Constitution
Constellation

Icarus and Atlas are relevant.

If the mission is one of conquest or exploitation, why not name it after a conqueror or military figure?

Granted, yeah, the FIRST interstellar ship should have a pretty neutral name attached.
