A Physics Student stands upon a skyscraper, as he is about to jump he says "All my potential is about to go".

Troll Physics/ Physics Joke thread time!

Two atoms bump into each other. One says, "I think I just lost an electron." The one says, "Are you sure?" The first one says, "Yea, I'm sure."

Why wouldn't this work?

1) you need to jump so hard tht you move up at the speed you are faling
2) the chair will get kiked down, so you need to jump so hrd that even losing all that you still move up at the speed you are faling.

It will not work because of inertia

I'm not that poster, but clinging to the chair whilst falling would be preferable to not having it at all, wouldn't it be? Surely it could absorb some of the impact; hopefully enough to let you survive, probably at the cost of some broken legs though.

It actually would work, just not enough to be noticable.

Vast simplification incoming.

Lets say you are falling at 10 meters per second. You push off the chair with enough force that you would normally have an initial upward velocity of 1 meter per second.

Net result is instead of hitting the ground at 10 meters per second you hit at about 9.5 meters per second and the chair hits at about 10.5 meters per second.

No significant improvement.

Yea it would be right up until the chair splinters and a piece of the leg impales you in the asshole. I think it would preferable to not fall off the building in the first place
