Nah I dont think its that its necessarily unpleasant to look at. I think when you look at someone's face, you don't see the nose. Obviously your focus goes straight to the eyes, thats why theyre made big and appealing, everything else really gets drowned out by the main focus. the mouth doesnt disappear completely because its still a key indicator of expression.

Because the nose isn't useful when trying to express emotion through art.

Most emotion is expressed through the eyes and mouth which is why the eyes and mouth are exaggeratedly large in anime.
