/sci/, I come to you as a amateur astronomer, seeking a fine new telescope.

Looking for a telescope around $200-$350, and around a 120-150x magnification.

If you good sirs could help me find a good quality telescope for that much money, I'd very much appreciate it.

I'm interested too, but don't expect any help from

rule #1
Don't buy from a department store. Go to celestron.com meade.com or orion.com

rule#2
Magnification means nothing. The most important factor is the aperture of the mirror or lens.

rule#3
Decide whether you need a refractor or reflector. Refractors are easier to maintain, are usually used to look at planets, and the colors are slightly off. Reflectors are cheaper as you get into bigger apertures, are a bit harder to use.

In my very novice opinion: get the highest aperture dobsonian(reflector on a dobsonian mount) you can afford.

You needn't worry friend

By magnification, I meant the optical diameter x 2, as said on Orion's website.

Thanks for the sources.

Thank you good sir.

How would one use a base-mounted telescope such as that say if I were to go out in the country? Not much experience, sorry. :)
