While I understand that our drawing pool is rather small. would it be impossible for a "Jupiter"/ Gas Giant, within the habitable zone of a star to support an "earthlike" moon?

I don't mean as big as the earth or as robust in regional diversity...but simply supporting an atmosphere and containing advanced organisms like trees and animals.

Are there things we know about Jupiter that would simply make this impossible?

Eh, it's not impossible, but radiation would be a hazardous factor.

Completely.

The amount of radiation depends on the gas giant, the star and the local environment of the system. Also, geomagnetic field.
