Why cant we have nice things?

WHY THE FUCK DOES THAT SPACESHIP HAVE WINDOWS?

DO THEY WANT THE CREW TO BE FRIED BY COSMIC RADIATION?

IRRESPONSIBLE BASTARDS.

That's OBVIOUSLY a screen set in a window-shaped mounting, meant to simulate a window.

nah breh, all you need is some boron doped high crystallinity deuterated polycarbonate.

that shit stops X-rays, neutrons, and gammas.

Why are all the capsuleers in their pods?

Someone is going to hot-drop a carrier on them and that'll be it. I hope their clones are updated.

they have a window on the ISS iirc

And in 20 years all the ISS astronauts will have cancer.

the ISS is well below the radiation belt and the ionosphre...

very little dangerous radiation penetrates that far towards the surface.

it is, in fact, extremely dangerous and difficult to send humans through this part of space without significant shielding and protection from the ridiculous amount of radiation and energetic particles that are found in this area.

I cant remember, but I think the blackbody temperature of the particles in the Ionosphere is like 1000 kelvin or something.

that doesnt mean that the "temperature" is 1000 kelvin... it just means that there is shitloads of energy stored in excited/ionized molecules...

outside you are blanketed by solar radiation which is basically just extremely polychromatic light, protons, and helium. very little x-ray or gamma comes from our sun.

Because society won't allow it. Face it, more people care about overrated pop singers and weddings than progressing mankind. America spends billions of dollars to separate themselves from everyone else but always finds time to cut education (America also preferred Edison over Tesla). The middle east is pretty much a lost cause and the only reason they have any technology is because they found it from the people the killed. China probably could make that kind of technology but obviously isn't interested. Africa's well...Africa. Unless the world is ruled by someone like Carl Sagan, we're pretty much stranded.

I read that the astronauts get more radiation in a day than most of us get in a year or something to that effect. Surely even with some protection they are exposed to a lot. More than anyone else including pilots.

so they get more evolution?

because the current nuclear scare is keeping our solution to the energy crisis, I.E, this;

of course they do... but that wasnt the implication being posted here.

the implication was that a window would somehow expose them to more radiation.

first thats fixable with the proper matierals.

2nd, even the ISS has windows, yet the windows have nothing to do with the radiation.

3rd, the location of the ISS is at a place where the radiation is at a relative minimum.

even Satellites are lower/in between the van allen belts.
