NASA is turning over station cargo flights to two commercial operators and hopes private companies will have the capability to fly people into orbit within four to five years. Until then, Russia will operate the only crew flights to the station, a service that currently costs the United States $51 million per person. The price climbs to $63 million a seat in 2014.

>America outsourcing space flights to private companies while subsidizing it completely. LOL "free market". They have made their own space program an over priced space delivery service, now with no focus on science, only profits.

>America out sourcing space flight to RUSSIA, lol.

Your empire is declining. The EU, China and Russia is expanding their space program, funds for education and research. You are all cutting it. Enjoy your extra ammo and chewin' tabaccy from your insignificant "tax cuts". LOL

From the article:

>NASA's next program, which is still in the planning stages, is to send astronauts to asteroids and other destinations in the solar system.

are they are downsizing while they are doing this? Ha, the lies they tell themselves!

It really is unfortunate. And frankly insulting. NASA makes back EIGHT TIMES more money than it costs to run it in patents on scientific discoveries. However all this money goes directly to the US Treasury, none to NASA.

Meh, I don't think so OP. The fact is, public space flight seems pretty pointless in the near future. Most of the basic research regarding long term human survival in space has been done. Now it falls to the private sector to try to lower payload cost and other cost associated with space flight.

One great thing about the private sector is that many of the silly political motives for what NASA does (like cancelling constellation) won't exist in the private sector. I for one welcome our new private space company overloads with open arms. Hopefully I can snag a job in the field when I graduate.
