Pretty much no one is getting excited. The general feeling seems to be meh, bordering on slight irritation. It's not helped by the fact that both the parties are fantastically, almost supernaturally boring people. There's a fair number of street parties, but that's mostly down to having an excuse to get drunk in the street in the middle of the day. The press are hyping this event like a motherfucker, but in reality no one really cares that much. People in general are more worked up about the AV vote on the 5th. On the other hand, Americans can't get enough of this shit and are absolutely fascinated
