What does /sci/ fags think about the meaning of the dreams?

>> No.2945850

Depends on the individual having them.

>> No.2945852

They mean our brains are working.

Psychological significance? Haven't got a clue, aside from, "dreams reflect what are important to you."

>> No.2945859

Meaning of dreams? Or the cause of dreams?

We are generally more into "How" than "why"

>> No.2945865

>>2945859
I'm thinking more about the "freudian" approach that dreams represents our hidden desires.

>> No.2945892

>>2945865
They may contain them, but I don't think that they are built entirely around them. I also think that it says a lot about what we are subliminally exposed to. I am no psychologist, though, so my ideas are most likely completely invalid.

many animals other than humans dream. also during REM many of the hormones important for development are released and it is known that individuals often become aroused.

should dreams be taken literally? a Girl told me a dream about me, and I'm intrigued by the real meaning.

>> No.2945948

this might sound like some /x/ stuff, but why do you think people share similar dream elements? like teeth falling out and stuff like that? it has happened to me several times

>> No.2945962

dreams are pulled out from your subconscious randomly.

but they can underline something that is worrying you, or a intrest in something can reappear in a dream, but if you have a dream that you are doing something that you don't agree with, ex. raping someone, don't sweat, it doesn't mean you will have a desire to rape people, it just is something that influenced you to think about that.

I read the interpretation of dreams by freud, and there was a topic about this kind of dreams, but I can't remember

>> No.2945991

I know what the real meaning of dreams are.

You'll have to wait till my book comes out before I post that information on the internet

>> No.2945999

Dreams are always a rehashing of your mind's subconscious. Last night I was on here and I had mentioned a few times some things about LSD. What do you know? I dreamt about being on LSD and using a message board where some guy who was named "Lupin" threatened to kill me.

Does it mean anything? No.

Do your dreams, OP, mean anything? No.

Shut the fuck up.

universal fears like falling, or universal desires such as love would be the most likely reason. There are more similarities in our thinking than one might expect.

maybe it isn't your mother, just perhaps a dream character that reoccurs a lot.

if you really don't want that to happen anymore, or feel uncomfortable with it, look into lucid dreaming, which means you control your dreams,

this is the best website for it

sometimes i experience deja vu because i've had dreams where i am doing exactly what i am doing at that moment. It's weird because i know exactly what is going to happen.

>> No.2946122

>>2946081

nah, I'm not to worried about it, but it's not just a recurring character, since i "know" it's my mom in the dream,

I dont make to much of a fuzz about it, i think it's quite normal actually, i mean there is a reason the ancient Greeks wrote all those incest stories

>> No.2946133

Since this is a dream thread, what are some suggested methods of inducing lucid dreaming? And have you also been able to induce it yourself?

>> No.2946164

>>2946133
Slow controlled breathing until you feel nearly weightless and feel as if you are losing consciousness. After this point, you can fall asleep and sometimes lucid dream, but that only works like 30% of the time, most of the time you have to wait until sleep paralysis. Thing is that you won't know when you get paralyzed, so you could fuck up and have to start all over. The process takes about 30 minutes at least, good luck.

that would be for a WILD technique, which you would have to do after a dream or REM period.

>>2946164

and yes, dream journals are good, but i think you DILD more, which is mostly realizing you're dreaming.

those both techniques are good, but i'm a MILD type of guy, worked for me lots of times, even though i have DILD'ed and WILD'd.

Most effective method I've had success with is setting an alarm on my cell phone to go off three times a day. 9am, 3pm, 9pm. When it does, I ask myself repeatedly, "Am I dreaming?" to which the answer of course is no. I've had at least one lucid dream every 10 or so days. Some do become ruined because I become "too aware" of the dream and actually wake up, but more times than not it's legitimately lucid and I have altered dreams in my favor.

>> No.2946228

>>2946200
Actually, its either lucid dream or bust for me. There are also times where I just randomly know that I'm lucid dreaming and do whatever I want, and then there are times when I go with the flow. I sometimes get bored with lucid dreaming honestly.

>>2946187
99% of my lucid dreams are on my back. It's my most uncomfortable sleeping position, but it helps you stay awake.

i think what you mean when you get too aware, is that you get excited, i dunno but lucidity is very easy to maintain, just spin in circles, rub your hands, touch the dream environment, it enhances your dream senses and makes it realistic.

Longest lucid dream guys?

I've had one that went on for what felt like 30 minutes or so. I have a huge list of things that I always wanted to do, and I could have done them, but I just didn't. I sat there for a while until I woke up, mostly because the thing I wanted to try the most didn't work.

Same Thing that i did. I was compeletly awe struck, like the feeling was of utter freedom. I woke up feeling I could do anything that day. I now know what a perfect day feels like, and what awe struck truly means.
