/sci/, I'm having a derp moment.

How does an electric engine work? Gas engines combust gasoline and the force of the explosion drives the pistons, but what drives an electric motor? Does electricity have the kind of power to push it? How does electrical energy translate into kinetic energy?

Sociological data unrelated.

Induction bro.

The electrified coil creates a rotating magnetic field that causes a magnet to rotate, this magnet makes the axle turn.

It's the exact opposite of a generator.

never heard of an electric engine, just motors

fucking magnets

if you have a magnet and a coil of wire you can do some weird stuff

put the magnet near the coil and spin the coil or the rotate the magnet around it somehow

it will create a current in the wire; that's what a generator is

if you run a current through the wire from somewhere else, it will make your generator spin on it's own; that's an electric motor

When the intake valve is open, a bunch of electrons flow through the wire and fill up the cylinder, pushing the piston down. When the piston reaches bottom dead center (BDC), the intake valve closes and an exhaust valve opens. The momentum of the spinning crankshaft (connect by rod to the piston) and its associated flywheel push all the electrons out through the exhaust port. At top dead center (TDC) the valves alternate again and the cycle repeats. The valves are controlled by cams either attached to the crankshaft or driven by a chain and located on top of the engine.
