ITT: The first practical formula you ever designed to solve a problem for yourself.

Mine was figuring out how far to space the vertical lines on a homemade go board in order to have symmetry.

I'm sure a lot of the other faggots on this board are gonna hate, but I genuinely found that a cool story, bro.

Can you post pics of the go board?

Nah this was a little over a decade ago.

first for me was for chem in highschool when i had to solve a huge quantity of pH values of weak acid/base solutions.
so i made my own little equation that allowed me to breeze right through the work. my little moment of justification was when I took AP chem the following year and it turns out I was using my own form of the henderson-hasselbach equation.
i've yet to experience another success like that though

I derived a bunch of distance formulas for three space. Does that count?

i'm building a chicken coop over the next couple weeks

might bust out some adding and multiplication

there might even be some triangles and squares and shit

rectangles and all that shit

you know how it is

Could use some calculus to work out the max/min area of different ways to set up your fencing.

Could even derive a function based on your parameters.

Worked out some equations for the torques on the servos of a robot I'm currently working on. Found out that given two forces of equal magnitude in opposite directions, the torques on any two points in the same plane as the forces are always equal. Shit was pretty cash.

In 8th grade we had a game where someone would hold a ruler above your hands and drop it at a random moment. You would snap your hands on it and where the top of them were was a measurement, say, 8cm, that you could use to compare reaction times. I knew that gravity was 9.8m/s then did some funky shit to determine our actual reaction time in ms.
