So I'm currently in honors Chemistry and I'd like to do a experiment on exothermic reactions with...an amazing boom/bang/explosion. Within reason of course. Nonetheless I have access to a wide variety of chemicals and want to scare the shit out of everyone.

Already trying to verify gun cotton and thermite with my teacher. I don't know about the oxyhydrogen though, I wouldn't want to do that one in a closed environment which is what I have to work with.

One of the elements we don't have access to unfortunately. This entire time I thought Fr stood for "Fun Reaction" :(

liClO4 + powdered sugar
(small amount, try starting at 1 gr and work up till desired audiovisual effect)

if you are trying nitrocellulose (guncotton) at least prove it is 3 nitrated (requires at least 2 nitration steps, with in between purification)
your nmr operator will love you for letting him put explosives in his machine

tho if you pull it off, you'll have demonstrated your chem skills beyong any doubt

Hmm. I'm only taking chem 150 (The more advanced version of 101, where they go deeper into everything). So a "vast" understanding of chemistry at this point is still rather.. nonexistent. :\ And while I enjoy the molecular part of Chemistry, I hate everything else. Only reason I'm doing honors is for...well, the demonstrations due to the fact all the labs are boring as hell.
