For a little bit, I wanted to be an architect. But now I realize that the pay will suck and the hours will suck, and there will be no job satisfaction. So, I intend to double major in mathematics, so I can get a better job, and have something to fall back on if the whole architecture thing falls through.

Thoughts? Also, what other jobs could I get related to engineering (or anything really) if I must fall back on math?

Care to explain?

>> No.2841989

why would you say there would be no job satisfaction being an architect?

I graduated in math and I would think being an architect would be a hell of a lot more interesting.

Spending my early years drawing stairs and bathrooms, licencing sucking, having my professional designs shat all over by indicisive clients, and so on.

Fuck architecture, math is the way to go. Math will get you anywhere you want to be, architecture is a glorified hobby. Somebody tell me I'm wrong.

>shat all over by town planners

Fix'd.

Planner here, trust me, we'll shit all over your designs. In fact we pretty much use most plans as toilet paper, because everything usually has to strictly accord to the character of whatever area you're building in. This will likely be Dullsville.

If you have artistic talent and technical skills out the wazoo, you can actually create some artistic houses that are very individual in style, however that only occurs in places like Sandbanks, Dorset or Beverly Hills etc although I deal with the architects in Sandbanks and they ain't all that. They get paid a fuck tonne though and get a lot of prestige with their porn palaces.

Have you ever shat on a private home? About how often do you not shit on a design?

>> No.2842050

It's mostly private homes that get shat on because they are, more often than not, in areas where other houses are - which means there is an established character. This mostly means that if you are building a new house in a regular suburb, it must look as bland as all the others. The Branksome area of Poole is prestigious because each plot is large and lined with large pines, which means that each plot is a blank canvass and the character is highly individualistic. Take a look down Bury Road, Poole on Google Street View. You could build anything there as long as it doesn't look totally stupid.

Your statements contradict one another. On one hand, you acknowledge a high paying job, and the other you deny it.

>> No.2842075

no job satisfaction? dude, architects love driving by buildings they designed and pointing them out to anybody who will listen. it's like a mother with a newborn baby.
