That study has to be inaccurate, I believe there is a loose correlation and it's mostly due to cultural influences. Intelligent people tend to gather in the same circles and so their taste in music might be shared, dumber people are more likely to listen to contemporary music because they are tools while intelligent people will listen to wahtever they want, though a tiny proportion of contemporary music is actually good, there are always exceptions to the rule.
