What does /sci/ think of science fiction movies? I think this one's pretty cool, it has aliens coming to invade earth because they ran out of water.

>> No.2830827

What? Making water is easy as fuck. There is plenty of Oxygen and Hydrogen in space.

Fucking Hollywood.

For some reason, I'm a bit of a sci-fi junkie, even though I'm a 3rd year physics undergrad...

Currently reading the Dune series :P

have FTL travel meaning probably enough energy to bend spacetime but can not make water.

MFW i have no face.

>> No.2830838

I remember asking one of my old science teachers in high school "if you had a hose that sprayed oxygen and a hose that sprayed Hydrogen and you had them pointing at eachother would you get a fountain of water in the middle?"

He had to think about it for a second.

Fuck yeah Dune!
Have you read Asimov's Foundation series?

Yup, read em in high school :P

They're both gases at room temperature.
I don't know how cold they'd need to be in order to be liquid but that would take a ridiculous amount of power to refridgerate.

>aliens coming to invade earth because they ran out of water

Every solar system, even the ones without planets have asteroids and asteroid belts.

Asteroids are full of water. Why fighting a war over it?

WHY WOULDN'T THEY JUST LAND IN THE OCEAN OR AT THE POLES WHERE NOBODY WOULD GIVE A SHIT OR EVEN NOTICE THAT THEY WERE STEALING OUR WATER

WHY

>> No.2830895

I enjoy deep space sci-fi films, like the Alien series for instance. I just enjoy the thought of being alone so deep into space, which often occurs in those kind of films.

That film's barely any better than Independence day!

>WHY WOULDN'T THEY JUST LAND IN THE OCEAN OR AT THE POLES

Why even land on Earth? Europa has only 0.134 g and no humans who try to mess with you. Right now aliens could be stealing water from Europa without us noticing.

>> No.2830919

Hell, they could harvest water from the Jovians and nobody would give a shit.

If a sci-fi writer actually creates a plausible plot, it'll blow my mind.

>because they ran out of water
Aliens should destroy earth because of this incredibly retarded plotline.

>> No.2830931

>>2830919
There's a lot of plausible sci-fi plots. Only that none of them gets made into movies because you know, they actually involve science and complexity which Bob Dumbfuck may not comprehend. Also, less explosions

>Bob Dumbfuck may not comprehend

Bob Dumbfuck is the author, not the reader. The established authors prefer telepathy, telecinesis, breeding with aliens, warpdrives and timetravel more than true artificial gravity, solarsails, terraforming and asteroid mining.

The same way the Moon is the property of mankind and not one single country. It's our Solar System. The place of our origin.

I want a movie where humans are the invaders. And not some Neo-Pocahontas tale. I want to see humans really fuck up a planet.

I think by his definition, that would count as a "local civilisation".

I think it's quite egotistical to assume that we own anything. We don't even really own this planet.
