Nothing in academia compares to the feeling of elation one gets from completing a mathematical proof.

That's because adademia in general is one massive shithole.

That's because there are no two things which feel the same, so everything feels different. q.e.d.

Write a computer program and have it work. Also a high. Solve a physics problem and get the right answer. You're just a closed individual.

I disagree. The general feeling of "holy fuck it works" applies to a broader class of projects. Successfully constructing a device to demonstrate a theoretical phenomenon, or to perform a particular experiment, produces comparable elation for me.

I don't get that feeling.
I always think "Is it good enough? Do I need to go back and rewrite it?"

I concur.
