The way it's supposed to be:
-Liberals want big government. Lots of government oversight and regulation, lots of taxes, huge government welfare programs, state run healthcare. The government should provide for its people.
-Conservatives want a small government. They want the government to handle only what is necessary--some infrastructure, defense, and whatever is absolutely necessary to promote free market capitalism. The government should only touch what it needs to touch.

How it actually is:
-Liberals push stupid social reform based on some weird sense of making things fair for everyone when they're really just making things fair for some and try to defund the military to put it into healthcare and shit.
-Conservatives push for weird social reform because idk Jesus told them to in a dream or something and they try to privatize some public shit to pump more cash into the military industrial machine.

If we were to create OFFICIAL VALUE POWER RANKINGS, for conservatives number one would be freedom, while for liberals it would be justice.

This means that whenever there's a situation in which these two values oppose, that's exactly the spot where you'll find a difference. For the rest, they tend to stand on basically the same ground.
