Start building nuclear reactors as fast as possible.

>> No.2786922

That makes me think: how long would we last without a sun?

>> No.2786936

>>2786922

If it blew up, we'd last... minutes.

If it just suddenly disappeared, a few small groups may live a few decades. Assuming we don't collide with another planet or get hit by an asteroid, of course.

The sun is always blowing up. It has so much mass that the explosion can't go beyond its current diameter however. For now.

The polar regions look the way they do because they recieve no direct sulight for 6 months give or take. Even then they get a ton of heat (compared to none) via greenhouse effect.

We're talking no sunlight. No external source of heat. No photosynthesis. The oceans would freeze. Decades? Really?

Can you think of any other scouces of heat, other than the sun?

I'm guessing he's taking into account underground or undersea shelters that tap geothermal for heat and power.

Of course, if it's doable, radioactives could also be harvested from the upper mantle for additional power.

Long-term survival would be a problem, with no prospects of colonizing other useful bodies for several tens of thousands of years, and that's if Earth happened to wander near enough to another starsystem.

Without sun, colonizing the moon might be impossible, not to mention futile.
