How is it that zodiac signs give near perfect descriptions of someone's personality?

Surely there's a scientific explanation. It can't be just coincidence.

They list a bunch of personality traits that apply to a bunch of people, something every person can agree applies to them.

They are intentionally vague, so that almost anybody may identify with them.

I'm guessing the same applies to zodiac compability?

Everything is connected. Astrology is just one of many methods to look at one part of the whole to make assumptions about another part.

Take, for example, a dirty lake. By looking at the gigantic amount of algae, you can conclude that the fish in the lake will be few and that they will be unhealthy.

>> No.2786714

Most people i know don't/barely match their signs.

There are only 1 or 2 people who i consider to be semi-accurate with their signs.

Compability is a joke, btw.

If you are born in the winter, you become 1 year old in the winter.
If you are born in the summer, you become 1 year old in the summer.
Around the time you are 1 year old, you start walking and talking.
What you experience in your first 6 months of walking and talking affects you for the rest of your life.
Draw your own conclusions

This.

I said just this in a discussion about astrology, but was instantly jumped on by both sides. Apparently it's not mystical enough for the moon-children, and too pop psych for the skeptocrats. I mean, obviously astrology as is is just half cold reading and half vague enough to be true of everyone, but there may have been a kernel of truth before superstition took hold.

I think it's a perfect explanation, though. Nothing to do with the position of the stars, everything to do with developmental stages. I can imagine a comprehensive study would find some correlation between the time of year one was born and personality, but no correlation between the position of the moon or stars at the time of birth and personality.

OK trends is gold-dust. What wikipedia does for knowledge, ok trends should do for relationships.

They have a massive sample size and no bias but trying to find out what really makes people compatible.

Then, of course, it would have to factor in where you grew up just as much as when. Fuck, here in Florida we don't even have seasons. A month or so of Winter, then the rest of the year full of fucking Florida.

The sample size is how ever many people are on ok cupid and agree to take part in this kind of survey.

I'd be surprised if there were an uneven distribution given these numbers, unless it was indicative of an underlying phenomenon.

I used to ask people what their star sign was and then deliberately read out the wrong one during a break at work. They'd of course agree with it completely.
