Why are we here /sci/? What is life's purpose?

>> No.2782523

no purpose

lrn to existentialism

>> No.2782524

If you were living, you wouldn't ask the question.

>> No.2782526

To exist.
To procreate.
To pass our genetic material on to the next generation.

That is it.

so you no use condoms?

gtfo and develop a valid philosophy

No there doesn't have to be a ''purpose'',that's a logical fallacy.. I shit on the toilette what's the purpose of me shitting? Nothing, I do it over and over again only to do it again every 8 hours... It's like the shit is doomed to wallow in it's shit then go down the toilette..

There is no point to existence, you make your own ''point''.. You make your own reasons for life or you let someone else make them up for you ie. you belong to some religious cult.

From a logical perspective, it is the only truth to 'purpose' that there is. We exist simply to exist and propagate. Any other meaning is arbitrary, subjective and essentially moot.

There is no purpose. We just like to think that there is. We're the same shit that surrounds us. Nothing makes us special.

Purpose implies intention. Intention implies sentience. Since we are the only sentiences we know of, we're free to define our own purposes in life.

>>2782557
Function is not the said of purpose. Our genes gave of that function because it worked out for them. That doesn't make it any less arbitrary.

this is not our purpose.

this is a several billion year old chemical accident.

to say that is our purpose is like saying the purpose of gravity is to distort spacetime

>chemical accident.
I thought accident's could only occur if something that was not suppose to happen happened.

Define supposed in this context. Do you mean to imply that some intelligence intended for life to happen, or are you on about the determinism thing, which is totally besides the point in this case?

>> No.2782661

With a microscopic perspective, it is fair to assume lives have goals. Your parent may have conceived you for a reason, you might want to get that car, you might seek real freedom, etc. The point is, given a social frame within consciousness, you can have a goal. (I assume goal and purpose are about the same thing)

Now, to humans in general? Well, you do have the «to live and procreate» purpose, which applies to every living thing down to cells. However, you have to know (well that's what I think) that the purpose you were initially given (in this case from life as we define it) is not necessarely the purpose you ought to have now. A country which has been colonized will eventually seek its freedom (Canada and USA for instance) because they evolved (not in a biologistic point of view).

>For humans at least, there is no sole purpose to live as long as we change, which is is almost inevitable

accidents, in this context, are random happenings
