Just wondering, why would someone lie in a thread like this? I mean, aside from like an obvious troll saying perfect scores and Harvard as a joke, I really don't see the point, it's not like anyone will recognize you for it after you make the post.

What exactly is a GPA or how is it calculated? Australia doesn't use them

Grade point average.

You give each letter grade a numeric value and then average it.

Typically its a 3.0 is a B, and an A is a 4.0

>>2780656
Grade Point Average - it's an average of your final grades and lets you know who is smarter than others and who you should or shouldn't hire. People with 3.0+/4.0 GPAs usually get all the good shit. People with less than a 2.0 usually get kicked out of college.

Australia does, its just not as prominent. First, equate your grade to a number as follows:

USA:
Fail 0
Pass 1
Credit 2
Distinction 3
High Distinction 4

Australia:
Fail 0
Pass 4
Credit 5
Distinction 6
High Distinction 7

Now find your average grade.

Thanks for all your help.

As it stands, 2.25 first year. Currently in second year, need to maintain at least 3.0 to stay in course. This is across the board. Funnily enough, it's for a soft-science.

My 2.25 GPA is based on the US system, and 5.25 based on the Australian. I look into that now though.

Studying mathematics but I just looked at my grade for last quarter in linear algebra... got a C- so now I have to meet with my advisor and see if I can go ahead and take linear algebra 2. My professor focused entirely on proofs and gave us no direction on what to study apart from "the book is your teacher, I could put anything from the text on this exam" decided that on his final he would give "enhanced" questions which essentially means, "I hope you all memorized every theorem and proof from the book that we covered because I want you to be able to regurgitate this knowledge on the final verbatim."

I don't really see why I expected it to be any different because this had been his modus operandi for the entire quarter but it pisses me off that I'm going to have to retake this course in order for it to actually be applicable for my major...

Yeah, same here. AFAIK, most, if not all classes require a C (2.0) in order to take the next class in the sequence. Maybe that's why I've always assume a D (1.0) was a failing grade, when in theory it's a pass if you don't need to take any more classes that require that class as a pre-requisite.
