Does the past actually exist?

>> No.2760603

No. But it did.

>> No.2760605

No. When the past existed, it wasn't past, it was present.

Yeah, but it was posted in the past, so does the idea expressed in it still exist?

Exist when? It no longer exists.

We are a product of our past if that's what you are asking.

>> No.2760625

The past exists in our memories, in written records, the arts, and geography. It does not have actually physical existence. Therefore the past can be altered if done sufficiently enough.

Maybe we only exist in each moment, and the past is something our brain makes up to explain it.

No, the past does not exist, 'nor does the future. All the things we associate with these two abstract concepts are interpreted from current phenomena.

Anything that gives reference to the past is itself held in a current form (neurons, hard disks, ink soaked paper).

I think the burden is on you to prove that it does exist.

how is that supposed to disproof time? the unchanged thing existed while ago

If there wasn't time everything would happen at once. That isn't the case so time exists.

>> No.2761071

The existence of a function does not imply the existence of something in reality.

Think about it, every TV show or video game you ever played could be written as a function. Doesn't make them reality.

>> No.2761077

>>2761061
Everything doesn't happen at once because of the speed of light.

Where is this "ago" you speak of? Sounds like a fairy tail.

>> No.2761078

Time does exist, as a theoretical unit to help us observe change. However, the past and present do not exist in any accessible way. We are the present and nothing else.

>> No.2761088

The past exists in the past. /thread

>> No.2761089

>>2761055
So where do hours fit in with moving? Maybe my question wasn't specific enough. You need time to move, you move at a velocity, velocity is distance over time, if time doesn't exist why is shit moving all the time?

>> No.2761096

Time is so 2000, we're all about space/time now.

>if time doesn't exist why is shit moving all the time?
unbalanced forces

>> No.2761108

>>2761089
It is because things change. They can change where they are relative to other things. We use this movement to as a clock to measure "time," see how circular this is?

Dump the idea that time is something real and separate from just the fact that things change. They don't change over time, they just change.

Or, change is time, if that helps.

But the idea that time is real therefore the past and future exist is not sustained by any evidence at all.

>> No.2761111

>>2761071
But if the function in question outputs reality, then it's possible. For example, there are programs for embroidery, 3D printing, etc. Flight simulations used for training is another good example.

>> No.2761191

>>2761108
Then explain how relativity destroys simultaneity? How can things changing change at different rates as observed from different frames of reference if there is no "rate" aka time?
