What is it with the continual cycle of consumerist behaviour we exhibit? Why is it that we today still live in this capatilist paradise where people are stupidly buying more and more useless junk like phones/computers/ipads every month?
what happened to the days where one would buy only what one ACTUALLY NEEDED, and not greed-out on the latest shiny -yet useless- products?
pic very fucking related.

Disposable income.

The people haven't changed just the amount of money the people have to spend and the sheer amount have crap has greatly gone up.

They made that same argument about Cellular phones when they were first implemented. I agree with you in a way but if you think about it not just in your perspective but from a technological stand point it becomes clear that although somethings dont have a direct impact for you right now, It very well will in the future.

i see what you mean there, but what i am really raving about is the mineless buying of crap. i.e. those dam "cool" twits who treat their phones like crap until they destroy them and then go out and buy another one every 2 months. that REALLY ticks me off.

Thats the slippery slope I have problems with similarly. The NEEDLESS spending is what a lot of people hate about consumerism. But it has its benefits as well. It is always easy to think your point of view is superior until you take into account the other side of the story. Without the dollars we use to buy things we like, the market will get filled with other meaningless/arbitrary bullshit. At some point you have to dictate where the market will go and whether or not it will be favorable for you.

>what happened to the days where one would buy only what one ACTUALLY NEEDED

Well you see people eventually obtained wealth beyond that necessary for the bare necessities
