hey guys

I'm pretty tired of people saying that imperial system is inferior to the metric system. you people act like the metric system doesn't have any flaws.

there are some inconsistencies that you people just seem to ignore, and i'm tired of it. fix the metric system before you criticize the imperial system.

Here's an example where the metric system is wrong:

say you have a distance of .5meters. now multiply this by .5 meters. You get a distance of .25 meters. however, if you take 50 centimeters, which is supposed to be the same as .5 meters, then this happens: you take 50 centimeters times 50 centimeters = 2500cm = 25 meters.

even though most of the time you can logic this out, this is a huge inconsistency.

get your shit together metric system.

>> No.2756212

you have to preserve units faggot. 50 cm x 50cm = 2500 cm^2

thats dumb as fuck.

you shouldnt have to use some little memorization tricks to get it right. it's fucking math, i don't want to memorize special cases.

>implying metric is any better than imperial because of this

0.25m^2 = 2500cm^2

no inconsistencies.....metric >>>>>> imperial

you have to do it with any system of units. 6 inches x 6 inches = 36 in^2. .5 feet x .5 feet = .25 feet^2

if you didn't preserve units you would get 3 feet = .25 feet

the only reason people hate on the american system is because its harder to understand and requires more intelligence.

Well done, op.

Metrics system: two days to learn, tops. Easy conversions, universal.

Imperial system: Fucking retarded, takes children years (even I don't know most of the imperial system because it's fucking stupid)

The imperial system IS inferior to the metric system, in every way, shape, and form.

The only place imperial is still widely used is the construction industry, only because those who perform manual labour like building are generally unintelligent.

in all seriousness, metric does have one major problem. Mass is still defined by an artifact and not by reproduceable physical phenomena. And to make matters worse, the artifact appears to vary in mass for NO reason.

There are actually several of these masses, and they each vary from each other very minutely, changing all the time. the magnitude of their difference and how far off the "true" mass they are is impossible to determine though since by definition they ARE the definition of mass.

it's all fucked up and the people who deal with those standards need to adopt a new definition. I think an atom-counting method would be best.
