Apart from the capitalist-economic reasons, why we don't have 100% electronic cars?
and, if they are like the one in the picture, why they look so awful?

I like the Tesla myself...

Many of the electronic cars require lighter frames because they suck. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they are intentionally trying to emphasize this environmental friendly selling point with shitty looking cars...

Batteries just couldn't keep up with the improvements in the internal combustion engine. It's only fairly recently that electric cars have started to become competitive.

Many large cities are already putting in the infrastructure for them, so in those places I would expect they'll be competitive withing a decade. It will take longer in more rural areas, which is a huge problem in the US because it basically is one huge rural country with widely dispersed cities.
