Modern artists have a belief that they are superior, the narcissism is engrained so deep they are incapable of realizing their hypocrasy of something being art just because they did it, they seem to believe they are the only ones coming up with original ideas and that originality is inherently valuable such that it is more valuable than art that is genuinely inspired or requires talent.

They are currently driving on fumes, rather like the obscurant 19th century aristocratic art community that tried to keep alternative art out of galleries and public recognition, they are only famous because they are part of a clique. Ironically 120 years ago "modern" artists were the ones rebelling against this old boy's club mentality.
