Alternative Energy Concepts:

So listens guys. We just have to drill deep into the earth, very deep, until we reach the very hot areas.

We use that heat to boil water, which generates a dynamo.

Energy Problem: Solved

>> No.2710293

You'd better start fucking drilling.

>> No.2710309

i.e. geothermal energy, i.e. not a new concept

A large part of Iceland's energy comes from geothermal power plants. It's not viable in most places because you'd have to drill to ridiculous depths to reach the magma.

>> No.2710312

Congrats. You have discovered geothermal energy.

>> No.2710316

The reason why geothermal energy won't work is you'd drill into the inside surface of the earth and fall through, disturbing their inner civilization and disrupting the balance.

>> No.2710350

If you can dig deep enough go ahead. I think the farthest down anyone has ever dug is something like 6-10 km or some minscule portion like that. That's barely enough to get through the edge of the crust let alone into a portion that is hot enough to power a power plant. And how would you propose to do such a thing in a populated area? A viable energy source, but not feasible.

Just where do you think we live? In space, dumbass. The Earth is a big rock that's floating through space. That aside, it would take an obscene amount of force to move the Earth via geological forces. You would pretty much need to discharge continents out into space. I don't see it happening.

It's called Geothermal Power my young troll and the only reason no one suggests it despite all the drilling equipment we have is that it's too fucking simple.

There may also be a few location problems but that's just a matter of 'digger deeper or not as deep as that other one'.

Also you don't dig into the mantle, just near it.

It is true that by shining a U.V light on to zinc metal you will emit electrons, which is beta radiation.
So in a hypothetical situation where you worked behind the bar (which was coated in zinc or another such metal) in a nightclub that used ultra-violet lighting. The you developed Cancer, would you have justification to sue them for giving you cancer due to radiation?

pic related, the photoelectric effect

>> No.2710510

>>2710485
No.. And what does this have to do with the threads topic? You won't ever get cancer from electrons and even if you did, you'd have no way to prove it came from that counter. You get hit with a vast number of electrons every second.

You'll never do more than a factor of 2 that way. And with China and India coming up to first-world level, power use needs to increase a hell of a lot more than that.

Maybe the US and Europe can be fairly OK just with efficiency increases. But their population hasn't peaked quite yet, although growth is decelerating.

I can't believe no one noticed this retards complete lack of understanding of Newtons laws.

Equal and opposite force would apply relative to the system of EARTH. Nothing that happens in the earth can cause it to move out of orbit and shoot it out of our solar system. It would require external forces. I know this and I'm only taking high school physics.

And that guy loses all credibility, ie., stop posting.

You're changing matter into energy and *gasp* guess what? New energy in the system (external force). That can change an orbit, but only very very minutely. To the point where it doesn't matter.

The guy was talking about magma leaking out of the middle of the planet and causing an orbit shift.
