But if an omnipotent God would be absent, or weaker in some places, and abandon us, then why worship him? Is it not better to rebel against such a tyrannical being?

Hey dumbass - 30 seconds on Google and I found this on the US immigration website:

>Tobacco Products
>You may include in your personal exemption
> not more than 200 cigarettes (one carton) or
> 50 cigars or two kilograms (4.4 lbs.) of
> smoking tobacco, or proportionate amounts of
> each. An additional 100 cigars may be
> brought in under your gift exemption.
>Cigars of Cuban origin are generally prohibited
> entry, even for personal use.

Planning to smoke more than 300 cigars while you're here? Jesus, you're addicted And a dick.
Ted.

Genesis 17:1
And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I [am] the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

God is depicted as omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent in the bible.

allusions to omnipotence are supposed to be metaphors.

Nope, they are supposed to be the word of God, like the rest of the Bible.

Or else you might as well consider the whole Bible as a metaphor. But do not consider only parts of it as metaphors. It's just too easy.

That's my opinion too. I've been an atheist my whole life.

But I was pointing out the absurdity of the reasonning in the answer to the Epicurus picture.

The whole thing is a metaphor, a Roman metaphor, made to assist ancient Roman emperors in controlling the people

The brain is a closed system whose only interactions with the outside world are from sensory outputs.

Consciousness is defined and restricted within a closed and "determined" Universe. Therefore, God can either be in the closed system or not exist.

Also comparing the Holocaust or the existence of natural disasters or evolution (which is a brutal process for us to get here) to homework, isn't really the same.

But nonetheless, you've equated the possibility of God to the possibility of Unicorns. Conceptual, historical and maybe plausible given improbable events, but at the end of the day, unlikely and unimportant.

I fail to see how this is a refutation. Epicurus didn't "prove" atheism, but he did present some strong evidence against christianity, proving that their God was either not omnipotent (like they say) or evil. Or not god.

This post only clarified his argument, but then tried to use that clarification against him. Also, the little brother analogy is stupid. You might not do his homework for him, but would if someone tried to, I dunno, rape him to death, wouldn't you stop them?
