betelgeuse is a red supergiant star which will likely become a core collapse supernova soon. When that happens, it's luminosity will increase by a factor of 10^6. The apparent magnitude of betelgeuse is currently m^v=1.0 (m^v = apparent magnitude) remembering that a factor of 100 in brightness corresponds to a difference of 5 magnitudes, what will betelgeuse's apparent magnitude be when it becomes a supernova?
