This myth came from the observation of old windows- they were thicker at the bottom than at the top.
Glass is a crystal, it's not a fucking liquid, it gets exponentially less fluid as the temperature decreases. At less than 100 degrees C, it moves like a mm every 13 billion years or something ridiculous like that. The extra thickness comes from the way glass windows were produced- they couldn't make them perfectly flat.
