because it's a symbol of our inherent nature. it reminds us that we are animals. the fact is we are more than that. Whether you believe in God or not, we have transcended that basic nature. In public discourse, nature and society are always dealt with as opposite sides of a scale. In fact, sex is probably the one thing remaining that is entirely natural. Everything else from eating to sleeping we do differently in some way. of course you argue that even with sex we've altered it. socialised it through technology with contraception and all but consider how controversial that is. it's obviously still done in very much the same way as it has been done for thousands of years.

So yeah, we hide our bodies to make us seem as existing over and above nature.

Clothes prevented us from becoming desensitized to sexually attractive features as nudists and hunter gatherer communities in hot countries are, to keep social discord resulting from sexual misadventures at a minimum most societies employed laws to keep women from baring sexually attractive features and men to keep their sex organs concealed lest they reveal intentions others may deem unfit.

but it has in effect come out of the distinction we have made between ourselves and nature. we've done this mainly through our use of objects. our invention of tools. >> No.2590980

Clothes came about to protect man from the elements.

They then began to serve the secondary functions of decorative display, and hiding signs of sexual arousal. People like this because they like to show off, and they like to fit in. Wearing unique or similar clothes fills this need. They also like to keep members of the opposite sex guessing as to whether they are interested in them or not, so that they may hold off on making the move until they are sure they will be reciprocated.

Now that nudity is something only normally seen in the context of an intimate relationship, it has become fetishised.

Seriously, you guys. We know this stuff.

>> No.2590988

>>2590980
This doesn't explain why tribes in tropical regions don't care about their genitals showing, and will sometimes actually show them pridefully.

Your whole explanation depends on the argument that clothes are necessary for protection from the elements, when in fact in many parts of the world that isn't needed.

In response to

>Now that nudity is something only normally seen in the context of an intimate relationship, it has become fetishised.

Because nudity has become fetishised, exposing it, granting a viewing of it, to people who could share a sexual interest is a minor sexual act in itself. This carries over to situations where nudity would make more sense from a pragmatic point of view.

>> No.2591002

>>2590988

It does explain it. Tribes in tropical regions don't care about genitals showing because they never developed clothing, initially for protection from the elements, that hides their genitals, and so they never develop a fetish for the exposure of their genitals.

They do other things to protect themselves from the elements. One tribe I heard of uses a technique that inverts the penis, to protect it from snagging on branches or whatever.

you won't be able to live the society if for example
some mutant sits naked next to you in the restaurant
or some amputee is waving his half limb though the room
these things are fucking disgusting and you find them disgusting for a reason

2) By hiding our sexual organs we're saying "I AM NOT ABOUT TO START HUMPING THINGS". you just support his point, by asserting that tribes in tropical regions(hot/moist) do not wear clothes. Clothes keep you warm and less likely to get sunburned for our fairer friends. If its always hot and humid why would I need to keep warm? Maybe then clothes become symbolic of status, or become something protective from physical harm.

Depends on how the support system in the society develops really. There is an island in the Pacific where children are considered as belonging to their mother's brothers rather than their biological father so the women tend to slut around a lot, rarely sticking with one man for more than 2 weeks. Humans don't go into heat, we fuck year 'round and get pregnant regardless of seasons. If humans had the distraction of sex cues then we'd be constantly fucking, pumping out babies and starving ourselves with overpopulation.

Being demure is about survival more than it is about social mores.
