In modern mathematics, 0 = 1. For '0' is singular. It's a single numeral, and acts as a sort of monopole that allows '+' and '-' numbers to exist either side.

If 0 didn't = 1, and wasn't a mono (one) pole, it would be impossible for NEGATIVE and POSITIVE to exist to either side.

In actuality, 0 = both + and -,
