I totally hate communism, but there must be some kind of way to regulate society so that people who are actually the best run the show. Meritocracy, but the capitalist system is hardly meritocratic.

Hypothetically speaking, of course, if one studied enough to become a polymath: Scientist, engineer, doctor, biologist, etc etc. and had access to molecular machinery, he could be entirely independent from the world. Hell not even a molecular assembler is required is the person is willing to pull up his sleeves and get to work.

OP here. I am also receiving an education made possible by government loans.

But when I see the corruption surrounding textbook industry and sales, the deliberate inefficiency surrounding education (for example why not make all of Harvard and Cambridge lectures available through you tube and established internet based correspondence relating to those lectures).


Why don't we do this? Because we deliberately make things inefficient so we can slow down progression, so that they people in power can stay in power.

Every 6 months, laptops get 2x better. Every year or so a new edition of the textbook comes out. Civil service sectors squander money and keep incompetent people employed.

They have money and power because they pursued money and power. We pursue knowledge, and if we're good enough we are provided not only with all the resources we could need to aid us in this pursuit, but we get paid to do it.

I don't work out of servitude to those more wealthy than myself, I work for personal enlightenment, and I'm thankful that I can support myself fairly well by simply doing something that I love. I wouldn't trade the knowledge I've acquired, and have yet to acquire, for all the money and power in the world.
