One basic principal of our universe is that nothing is perfect, ever. IF you think of time as a dimension, then if you were to look very closely, time itself wouldn't be perfect. Think of a marble. It appears to be completely smooth and spherical from afar, but if you were to put it under a high powered microscope, you would see bumps, craters, etc. Same idea for time, except the imperfections are holes, connecting to time in different places.
