So, /sci/, what is the maximum population of a post-scarcity civilization on Earth?

At what point are there just too damn many people to adequately provide for all of them?

One.

As long as there is more than one person on Earth, there will be competition over resources. Human desire is infinite, while resources remain limited.

14 trill I think, I forget the carrying capacity of the earth. There will reach a point where people cannot obtain food and they will starve off , thus population will decreed until once again the earth can support it's inhabitants again and again this cycle will repeat. We already have hoarding of food and starving of people

What this man said.

Let me add a minor correction: 0 works too.

A post scarcity society has unlimited resources by definition. That means it has no maximum population.

Not exactly.

Even after resources become infinite, land remains scarce as long as humanity is on a single planet.

Then it isn't post scarcity.

let me explain, you can't predict the future, we might find something that'll increase the carrying capacity of the world by a couple more billion, therefore speculation now will never be accurate.

In a word? Growing.

If post-scarcity were possible, we would have achieved it in the industrial revolution. We've been able to provide many times what's necessary for the billions of us to live comfortably since then.

There will never be "post-scarcity" because we will always consume to the limits determined by our wealth. No amount of wealth will stop this. This is why we have pizza delivery and comic book stores, and other ridiculous luxuries made possible by our great wealth. Demand reaches to the full extent of the production capabilities of every living soul. There will never be post scarcity because as long as humans can think of new ideas, new products, or new services, there will necessarily be a demand-driven scarcity of those things that drives their economy.
