Hey /sci/, I need help finding an equation that will help me find the number of ways you can distribute one number into a certain number of groups. In this case, distributing 100 among 4. Really stuck, thanks guys.

I mean more like this:
1 2 3 4
25 25 25 25
26 24 25 25
...

Algebra to find the number of ways you can split 100 into 4 groups

Are the groups distinct? If so, 1,030,301.

Imagine the 100 items are in a line. Imagine that you have three partitions you have to place in this line (strictly between items, or at either end). You may place a partition anywhere, even where another partition already exists.

The number of items at the start of the line to the first partition is the number of items given to the first group, etc.

There are 101 possible places to put the partitions, and 3 partitions, so 101^3.

Thanks, you saved my ass!

Just remember, that approach only works if the groups are distinct (ie, 100 0 0 0 is different than 0 100 0 0).
