I want to gain an auto-didact understanding of mathematics.

Which books do I pick up?

>> No.2496602

You gotta be some kind of genius to understand it without any frontal lessons for new topics. Good luck, I have no clue as to your original question and I do wonder if there are such things at all.

I had in mind some introductory texts that would cover the basics of certain areas of mathematics.

I'm sure someone knows of a few good ones?

I'm not completely math-illiterate, but I'd like some books that start from scratch.

Doesn't even have to start from scratch. I just want to learn about mathematics.

Now surely there are recommendations to be given?

OP, if you have to ask, you won't make it. I'm sorry.

You don't own any books about any aspect of mathematics?

>> No.2496693

I'm in the same boat as op and have this book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Course-Pure-Mathematics-G-Hardy/dp/1164426931/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=129
7155146&sr=8-5

It's supposed to end with calculus. However:

The book you mentioned is what I'm getting at, however that doesn't seem to be the best book for it.
