Yes. I suck @ Counterstrike though..

No, not really, it's not really about computers either.

Your question asks

"Is computer science science?

Answer is in the question.

That's not simply science... THAT'S ALMOST MAGIC!

They're neither, fucktard. And just because something has "science" in its name doesn't make it so.

>> No.2486385

>elliptic curves are ellipses and curves
They're conics sections with an extra x³ term. Close enough....

Yes it is. A lot of people are misinformed about computer science, and they believe it is programming. It's why there are so many failures who go in thinking they're going to learn to make vidya gaems and they get mad because they can't pass 200 level discrete mathematics courses.

Computer science is not programming. Programming is to computer science as operating a telescope is to astronomers.

yes, I mean, what the hell do they use multidimensional & vector calculus, partial differential equations or complex analysis for. it has no practical uses.

>> No.2486601

>>2486586
If you're saying that complex analysis has no practical uses then you don't deserve to call yourself a mathematician.

Pretty ironic, considering I'm a CS major.

Boolean algebra is part of system architecture here (logic gates, registers, ALU's etc).

Complexity theory is part of theory of computation and algorithms & data structures.

Our uni's CS lets you do different areas of emphasis. The one area that seems to have any advanced math is Computer Theory. Linear algebra, combinatorics, graph theory, and multivariable calc.

Who said anything about it being hard? Anyway it's only the first of 3 required math courses, I'm just finishing up the second now which was mostly linear algebra, algebraic structures, fields and vector spaces. The last one is multi-variable calculus and stochastics/probability I think.
