Can bugs/insects feel fear?

Ants, wasps etc. attack larger things without hesitation so I would think that they don't right?

Define fear.

If it's aversion to pain, then yes I believe they feel it.

I was unaware they could even feel pain.

Well not in the human sense. Maybe better to say aversion to death.

I mean insect will usually retreat when attacked unless they have the upper hand as a swarm.

Think of insects as complex robots. They don't feel pain, or fear, but they know that some things are bad and will avoid them.

>> No.2408038

Humans definitely feel fear, but you often see them just as willing to sacrifice themselves. A bee that dies to defend its hive is the same as a human dying to defend their nation.

FEAR IS FOR THE ENEMY! WE KNOW NOT OF PAIN!

>> No.2408103

To answer this question you'd have to define fear. For that you'd need /phl/.

Actually they're even less than that. A bee dying to defend it's hive is more like a white blood cell dying to defend the body it lives in. It's not an issue of morality, or kinship, it's pure instinct, robotic programming.

Bees have feelings bro, prove me wrong.

Checkmate.
